Abstract:

The Maryland Mainstem component consists of a 22 station network which is sampled bi-weekly or monthly depending on season. The program provides a long-term record of water quality trends and is used to annually characterize the Chesapeake Bay. The Program is administered by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Sampling began in June 1984 and has continued through the present. Parameters measured include temperature, dissolved oxygen, specific conductivity, salinity, pH, secchi depth, nitrogen species, phosphorus species, carbon, silica, suspendend solids, chlorophyll, phaeophytin, plus locational and weather related measures.
