Physical Data Sets

The physical data base contains climate, tide, and current data collected between approximately 1950 and 1985. The climate data includes wind patterns, rainfall, temperature, humidity, and solar radiation; it was acquired from NOAA's National Climatic Data Center. Hourly tidal height data for the full period of record at three tide stations (Havre de Grace, Annapolis, and Hampton Roads) are contained in the physical data base. In addition, there is hourly tidal height data for 10-15 stations throughout the Bay for each of the years 1965, 1982, 1983, 1984, and 1985. Tide data was acquired from NOAA's National Ocean Service. Most of the current meter data in the data base was collected during NOAA's Chesapeake Bay Circulation Study, conducted in the central mainstem Bay, 1981-1983. The only other continuous current meter data in the data base is for the summer, 1980, when approximately 50 current meters were moored in the mainstem Bay, from the mouth to the Susquehanna.
