Nutrients Data Sets

The nutrients data base contains nutrient and water quality data collected by CBP researchers and includes nutrient data collected by other institutions which conducted important nutrient surveys in the past. Data in these files consist of concentration data for a variety of chemical forms of nitrogen and phosphorus, organic carbon, chloro- phyll, pheophytin, and other standard water quality measurements including temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductivity, and turbidity measurements. This data base is composed of files containing data from the major water quality sampling efforts conducted in Chesapeake waters. These data files were merged and organized by CBP segment. These data cover the entire Chesapeake Bay and tidal tributaries covering the period, 1907 to 1982. The sources include the Chesapeake Bay Institute (Johns Hopkins University), Virginia Institute of Marine Science, University of Maryland, Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Smithsonian Institution, Maryland Office of Environmental Programs, Virginia State Water Control Board, Virginia Bureau of Shellfish Sanitation, EPA Central Regional Laboratory, EPA Chesapeake Bay Program, US Geological Survey, and others. All water quality observations in this data base are linked to parameters describing station, Bay segment, date, time, depth, and method information.
